IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO BE A PATRIOT:
We still need cheerleaders of all ages. Our Board is committed to making sure that every child will have the opportunity to participate, regardless of finances, and we offer several fundraising opportunities.

TEAM PLACEMENT:
Cheerleaders will be placed on individual teams using a variety of factors some of which are age, experience, and participating siblings. I will also try to balance the teams in size and strengths, so that each team has the opportunity for success.

As your child’s team is formed please be assured that we have experienced, enthusiastic coaches at each level.

PRACTICE: Practice will be held beginning on AUGUST 1st, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm, unless otherwise directed by your cheer coach. Practice is every day Monday – Friday. All practices are mandatory, and excessive absences from practice can cause removal from games and/or the team. Please be on time to practice, and prompt to pick up your child at 7:30 pm. Parents remaining at practice will be seated behind the fence.

PRACTICE ATTIRE: Cheerleaders should wear comfortable shorts or sweat pants, t-shirt or sweatshirt with tennis shoes. Practice clothes in the team colors (red, white, blue, grey) is desired. NO JEANS, NO DENIM SHORTS. No jewelry of any kind, no fake nails, natural nails must be clipped short. Hair must be in a pony tail and kept off of face. Bring a towel for stretching in grass, and water or sports drink and healthy snack.

UNIFORMS:

RENTAL: Rental of your cheer uniform is included in your participation fee. Skirt, shell and bodyliner will be provided; and must be returned at the end of the season. Poms may be shared by all teams, or may be given to your child for the season. Poms must be returned at the end of the season.

The Patriots are a growing organization, and we will strive to purchase new uniforms for our cheerleaders to rent, as they are needed. Because the uniforms can take 5 to 6 weeks to come in; it is imperative that cheerleaders sign up as soon as possible.

Cheer uniforms will be ordered in the first week of practice, and hopefully will arrive by our first game. Late signups may have a delay in receiving a uniform. Camp clothes will be worn at games until uniforms arrive.

ITEMS TO KEEP: The following items will be provided for your child to keep: camp skirt/shorts, camp shirt, briefs, socks, shoes and hair bow. The cost of these items is included in your participation fee.

OPTIONAL ITEMS: There will be warm up outfits and personalized cheer bags for purchase, these items are optional. Your Coach may request the purchase of cheer hair for use at games or competitions, the cost is approximately $15.

GAME DAY DRESS CODE:

Please remember that you represent the entire Patriot’s organization, as well as the City of American Canyon when you attend both home and away games. In an effort to reflect our teams’ high level of discipline, pride, and self respect cheerleaders will observe the following Game Day Dress Code. Arrive at the game wearing your entire cheer uniform or Patriot’s warm up outfit, Patriots camp clothes, or Patriot’s spirit wear. NO JEANS! NO JEWELRY! Hair must be “cheer ready”. After the game please observe the above dress code or completely remove your cheer uniform.

CHEER CAMP:

DVYFC requires our cheerleaders attend cheer camp. It will be August 8th & 9th. The cost is approximately $40 ($25 for Scouts). The camp is usually located in Danville, and we will be carpooling together. Parents are welcome to attend free of charge. As more information becomes available from DVYFC I will let you know.

CHEER COMPETITIONS:

The Patriots have competitive cheer and dance teams, and we compete several times a season with the goal of qualifying to participate in the USA Jr. Nationals competition, held in Disney’s California Adventure.

ONLY the DVYFC league sponsored cheer competition is paid for by your participation fee. All other competitions are paid by the parent, for both cheerleader fees and admission for parents.

Participation in competitions (except the DVYFC conference competition) will be at the recommendation of the coach, with approval of the cheer director. Teams must be prepared and “competition ready” by the sign up date in order to attend. Every effort will be made to ensure that all teams are prepared for competitions.

Following are the competitions in our area that we would like to attend this year:

Sunday, late September – Santa Cruz; approximately $35 per participant

Sunday, Mid October – Great America; approximately $45 per participant and $45 per parent

Sunday, Mid October – Six Flags Discovery Kingdom; approx. $45 per participant and $45 per parent

Sunday, November 8th – UC Davis
DVYFC league competition – included in your participation fee

Early March – USA Jr. Nationals – Disneyland; approx $170 per participant and $150 per parent

* Qualification for Nationals does not guarantee that the team will attend. Parent interest, coach recommendation, and cheer director/Board approval will be needed.

More detailed competition information will be provided by your coach closer to the events.

FUNDRAISING:

There will be several opportunities for fundraising throughout the season to help defray the costs of competitions, camp, and optional cheer items for purchase. The easiest ongoing fundraiser is volunteering at Bingo on Sunday evenings. Credits earned will directly benefit your child and can be accumulated to cover your cheer expenses. CHEER COACHES NEEDED

We are still looking for enthusiastic, dedicated coaches who want to make a difference in the lives of our young girls. There are openings at every level. Dance or cheer experience is desirable; spirit and love of football and cheer is necessary!
